I've made my way around the block, been here and there a time or two. Seen all across this great big rock, nothing compares to you. Wonders of this world, I give them a seven. On a scale of one to ten, you are an eleven. She's the kind of girl I need. Beauty, grace and clever wit. The kind who'll give you all her love, then slip right through your fingertips. There are other girls, I don't recommend them. On a scale of one to ten, you are an eleven. Oh a boy can dream, watching her from a screen - the closest I can get to 'here with me'. The world's a dark, scary place. Filled with greed, corrupt with hate. Rather I just kept away then face another painful day. Here alone with you, my lovely obsession. On a scale of one to ten, you are an eleven.

this was a submission for a weekly songwriting contest called 'songfight'. the prompt was 'on a scale of one to ten' and you had to run with it. here is what I came up with. Written, scored, recorded and produced in six days.

The story opens up with someone who is pining for their love. We don't know much else, maybe they used to be together or he/she doesn't like him/her - we don't really know.

The bridge is a reveal where we learn that 'Damn he ain't even spoken to her, maybe never even met her in real life'. Our hero is revealed as some sort of faux-stalker character, who knows - use your imagination.

Third verse we find our hero is too scared, maybe dealing with social anxiety and is content (though unhappily) to fixate on this ideal image of a partner they have created and just waste away without ever trying to make anything real.
